Steven “The Hair Doc” Thomas

RYG: Would you tell us, who is Steven Thomas?

ST: I am a hard worker, Goal oriented, Hair Psychologist, and Beauty Counselor,Passionate, Patient, and Caring.

RYG: How long have you been in the Hair Industry?

ST: Professionally 5 years, but I started at 16 years old. I just loved creating beauty.

RYG: What do you consider your specialty?

ST: Everything Hair…that’s why I’m considered the “The Hair Doc” because I believe in ultimate hair care.

RYG:  Would you consider yourself a celebrity stylist?

ST: NO. I don’t like to be labeled.  I got into the industry to make people beautiful. You could say, “I’m a hair artist that want to share beauty with who ever wants it.”

RYG:  Is there anything you would like to do that you have not done yet?

ST: Yes, I have always wanted to be a platform artist in New York. I love sharing the skills I’ve developed and acquired over the years with other artists. I also want to bring my fashion to the forefront. The piece I have on today is one of my many designs.

RYG: I Love that Jacket.  So, Steven when you look back at the beginning, were there any hurdles you had to cross? If so, how did you overcome?

ST: WOW, being from the south my family wanted me to be or do more masculine things. They wanted me to become a lawyer, or a psychologist but I just wanted to do what I’ve found passion in doing…and my aunt was the one that gave me the encouragement I needed to pursue my dreams.

Before my aunt passed away, she told me that I couldn’t live my life always trying to please people. She also said, keep my mind focus on my dreams, then I moved here to Maryland and have been doing what I love ever since.

RYG: After going through that, what words of encouragement do you have for new artists in the industry?

ST: Be willing to learn and work hard, you have to be strong minded and goal oriented.
