When did your passion for design and art begin?
My passion for Art began around the age of 6 1/2 or 7. I would be at church with my family and sometimes the services seemed so long that I would stare at the beautiful stained glass windows. I thought to myself, wow these windows need to be everywhere. So I would kneel down and I would put pieces of paper from my mom’s note pad on the pew and draw. The more I drew it was like time disappeared and only art existed.
My passion for fashion comes from humble beginnings wanting a look but not having the money. I would take old clothes cut them up and make wearable art out of them. I never envied what others had, I just wanted to dress them in the things that I thought was beautiful with my stamp on it.
Do you feel your art is rooted in Africa inspirations?
African art plays a part in my work but God is every part. I pray and sometimes I don’t always know what I’m painting…so it often comes out abstract. There is always a beautiful message and meaning behind everything that I make because I lead with LOVE.
