RYG: Tell The RepYoGrind audience about your journey.

I became a stylist because it’s what I love to do. I have been doing hair since I was like 10, but honestly I thought at first that I wanted to be a school teacher. LOL, I was doing hair in HS still thinking to myself  “I am going to be a 3rd grade school teacher”, then reality kicked in and I realized I had a gift in styling hair, so I decided to stick with it and maybe one day I will teach cosmetology.  I have been in the industry professionally 5 years, but I have been perfecting my craft for 20 years, Lol sounds like a long time but I’m just getting started, skies the limit!

I love the latest trends, I consider myself quite fashionable, and so I love how in fashion you can be so free. People don’t match, and it’s ok! People are wearing cut up jeans and leather on their jeans again, and its ok! I believe in being different, standing out from the crowd. Fashion today gives you that freedom, and I love it!!! I think I’m just unique over-all, my personality is “def unique”, and a lot of people judge me the wrong way, they think I am stuck up or she think she all that, but no I’m actually a sweet, humble, aand down to earth girl, I love everybody Lol, I am a people person, very friendly, I feel I’m one-of-kind and to know me is to love me, I think my bold style and bold hairstyles also make me unique.mzflybeautician

Let’s talk about setbacks, I had my twins, my drive for work went down when I was pregnant, I’m not going to lie – I hated doing hair!! It was rough, but praying got me through it. When I came back from maternity leave, my drive escalated, I honestly think I’m doing better now (skill wise) then before. I’m a single mom of 3, so it’s hard, but I try to remain focused and I keep telling myself  that my hard work will pay off for them one day.

During this journey my mom encouraged me a lot along the way, she taught me to not worry about anything but pray about everything, she supports me 100% and I love her tremendously for that because without her I don’t know where I would be in this field. My BFF; LaDonna, encouraged me a lot and still does to this day, she pushes me to raise the bar, and my cousin Nikki encouraged me too, she actually inspired me to do hair, I am following in her footsteps. I’ve been encouraged and pushed by a lot of people; they believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and I am thankful for it, because they kept me focused.

mzflybeautician1Here are encouraging words I live by: skies the limit, dream big, all things are possible through Christ, keep the faith, stay prayed up, and don’t give up, I also try and stay away from negativity because it’s draining to your spirit.
