Looking through New Lenses…

Greeting,  had an awesome opportunity to watch the Acuvue 1 day contest; where I saw Uche’ Ndubizu of  Houston,Texas. He was one of the winner with the opportunity to be mentored by Joe Jonas (The Jonas Brothers) in which he also made his first official music video. AWESOME I KNOW!!!! I loved his journey so much, I had to share it with you.  Check out his interview….

How long have you been performing/writing?

About 10 years. I’ve performed in choirs sporadically all my life since 3rd or 4th grade. My first like barely legit performance was in 8th grade at my schools talent show, with one of my friends on the dance team, we did a hip-hop dance that we choreographed together, it was pretty chill. I haven’t been writing very long though, I’ve been seriously writing for about 1 year now. Though I wrote “Shoo Fly” which was the first full song I ever wrote, about 2 years ago for a band I was in at the time.

uche1Where do you see your career in the next 2 years?

It all depends on God’s plan. If it were up to me, I would be winning a Grammy, Billboard, and BET Award for Best New Artist.

Explain your musical style with our audience.

I don’t really like to “box” myself into one style of music, lol it an overused phrase… but it’s true. Like a lot of people, I grew up listening to a lot of contrasting genres of music, Rock, African, Electronic, Pop, K-Pop, R&B, Gospel, Classical, Country, etc., and thus like to think that the music I create is really a culmination of those styles, because they are what molded me as a singer. Even in my writing session, I like to reference track from different genres, with parallel feels, it’s always so chill when it works out, and for instance I referenced a Pop/Dance and a Rock song… and wrote “Shoo Fly.” I would love to introduce these hybrids, so to speak, into Popular “Pop” Music.

Do you prefer writing or performing? Why?uche2

Hmm… I love writing but if I had to choose I would have to say performing. When I perform I am 100%, like no apologies, no worries, no insecurities, and literally the more people there are, the less self -conscious I am, and the more authentic I am to myself. I love to dance, I love to sing, I love to be the “center of attention” and so obvious when I’m performing… like… that’s my ish.

What other interests do you have?

I suck at sports its tragic lol… I’m only half exaggerating… but I like tennis and I’m obsessed with swimming… I was definitely an octopus in another life… especially having these destructively long arms and leg. I haven’t gone swimming much recently though cause I have been busy writing and working out so I can be looking sexy lol.

What advice do you have for your piers?

Cliché Alert: Dream Big, Follow those dreams, and create smaller goals to reach that dream. Oh yea, and be a student to life learning from every experience you have, because everything in God’s plan, happens for a reason.
